Comes in 3 parts comprising of the cap which is the section that screws onto the fixing of the light fitting (or cord grip for a pendant lamp) the centre connection unit where you will connect the live (Brown) and neutral (Blue) and Earth (Yellow and Green) then the top section which will screw over the connection unit and onto the cap.

This is a threaded lampholder meaning you can attach a shade using the 2 shade rings supplied. Simply screw the first shade ring onto the lampholder, place the shade on top, before screwing on the second shade ring, allowing you to securely clamp a shade onto this lampholder.
If you don't need to add a shade, then the more cost effective option is to purchase a plain lampholder that doesn't come with any shade rings.
